History In The Making

Centrally located close to the beach between Noosa Heads on the northern end, and Caloundra in the south, and midway between Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, on the aptly named Sunshine Strip, Alex Beach Cabins and Tourist Park is the perfect location from which to enjoy everything the fabulous Sunshine Coast has to offer.

Alexandra Headland, often referred to as just ‘Alex’, offers a long white beach, walking and cycling paths, a skatepark, Cafes, restaurantsand its own Surf Club with varied dining options – all within walking distance of our Park.

This pristine coastal resort town started life as a huge private property in the 1860s, and was named after Queen Alexandra. Subdivision followed in 1915 and a small community of seaside cottages sprang up in the 1920s.

As boat and tram services were introduced, making this picturesque strip of coastline more accessible, boarding houses and holiday homes were established and the holidaymakers started to come.

Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club was built in 1924, and remains today one of the area’s most popular beachside locations for drinks and meals.

Australia’s first council caravan park opened in Alex in 1952, followed throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s by hotels, restaurants and more boarding houses.

Alexandra Headland today is a vibrant seaside community, where locals love to live, and holidaymakers love to visit.

With its laidback atmosphere, breathtaking scenery, safe swimming and top surf breaks, excellent eateries and shops, Alex is one of the best holiday destinations in Australia.
